i use canon iP1700. in windows. but now i am using ubuntu 7.10. how can i config my printer. please help me

try ctrl+esc

it also works in windows and brings task manager faster than ctrl+alt+del

Modem Problem in Fedora core 9

I use fedora core 9. i hav a fixed wireless terminal phone set from national phone. it is HUAWEI ETS 2058 modem. fedora not detect it at all.

i can't use internet from fedora. i am in problem. my modem is connected with /dev/ttyUSB0.
but, fedora can't detect it as modem. it shows error about this device when i use-

dmesg -c

any solution for me?
solution for ubuntu users to configure modem with 'wvdial.conf' not working for fedora 9. i already tried those.
it always show error about this device.
plz. help me

Okay I got a LiveCD from OpenSUSE 11,if anyone wants a copy lemme know.

Connect to GPRS via Bluetooth!

I dunno if this is useful but, it seems to me that my nokia mess up a big time when connected via data cable. I had an old Winster Bluetooth Dongle lying around so thought may be I could give it some works.Searching a little through the internet I found a great amount of info and only few of them works,others are quite outdated.
I'm posting the one that worked for me

Here is a list of what we need for this one:
:Any latest linux
:Any working Bluetooth Dongle
:Bluez-Utils
:Bluez-Lib
:PPPD(for linux other than Ubuntu)
:Somehow manage a working internet

Lets get started...

First connect your bluetooth dongle to any available usb port
Wait for 5 seconds,a bluetooth icon should showup on your notification area This is usual with all the latest versions of linux
(If the icon doesn't show up follow on ,else jump to Pairing)

For people who are using older versions of any distro follow up
If not fireup
sudo apt-get install bluez-utils
sudo apt-get install bluez-lib

When done with the installation we are golden!
Now reconnect the dongle to any usb port
Wait...

Pairing...
When the bluetooth icon pops up.right click on it and select browse device
Select [Scan] from the new dialog box,and turn on your cell's bluetooth and set it to visible mode.
You'll see your cell phones mac-address,something like AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF
Copy down this AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF address as shown on the list,we'll need this later on.

Highlight that one from the list and select connect,your cell will ask for pairing,When done with pairing we are done here.
So far what we did:

We setup our bluetooth
We paired our cell with the PC

Technical part...
Now comes the technical part.
Type in
sudo cp /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf.1 sudo gedit /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf

Now gedit should openup.
Edit as required
Here is my configuration
Note: You can copy this one and past into your one then edit as required

rfcomm0 {

         bind yes;

         device 00:1D:E9:88:E9:AA;

         channel 1;

         comment "GPRS";

 }

in device line the address 00:1D:E9:88:E9:AA will completely differ,so type in your own mac address,if not sure,select [console] from your task bar and open a new tab. Type in

hcitool scan

wait
You'll see something like this

Scanning ... Your:blue:tooth:address:goes:here Nokia5610

copy down the address.
Get back to gedit and past or type in your address beside device.
Save and we are golden again!

Almost there...
Now we are almost there
type in
sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/gprs
And a new black file should openup in gedit
Type in the following or copy paste as we do



/dev/rfcomm0 57600 

connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/ppp/connect'

 crtscts

 modem -detach

 noccp

 defaultroute

 usepeerdns

 noauth

 ipcp-accept-remote

 ipcp-accept-local

 noipdefault

This is the basic chat file that connector will read to communicate with rfcomm.

Now then save the file and close gedit.
Type in
sudo gedit /etc/ppp/connect
type in the following or copy past again!

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","gpinternet"

OK "ATD*99#"

CONNECT ''

One the line AT+CGDCONT replace gpinternet with appropriate apn, like
"gpwap" may be "gprsunl" for teletalk people who got the unlimited package subscription, I highly recommend you do this only if you have an unlimited access,else you'll endup with zero credit before you know it!

Anyways so we are done.
You did a great job today,now if you are feeling too excited go treat youself with a 1 litre pepsi or may be a pizza etc....

Connecting ....
Finally the moment of connection to the internet has come. Behold the power of pon or pppd(if don't have ubuntu)
If you are a ubuntu user type in the following into the console and hit return:

pon gprs

For people who aren't having ubuntu type in su and login as root into a basic console,then type in the following

pppd call gprs

wait and you'll be connected!
So we are done.
Phew! That was a long way,pardon me! I can't write short stuff

Ctrl+A = Home (Move cursor to beginning of line)
